Nordstrom Credit Card: Rewards, Benefits, and Which Card to Get (2026)

Nordstrom offers two credit cards: the Nordstrom Retail Card (store-only, no annual fee) and the Nordstrom Visa Signature Credit Card (accepted everywhere Visa is accepted, no annual fee). Both cards earn 3 points per dollar at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook, and Trunk Club — equivalent to 3% back in Nordstrom Notes. Notes are mailed when you accumulate 2,000 points, worth $20 in Nordstrom credit. The Visa version also earns 2 points at restaurants and 1 point everywhere else.

# Nordstrom Credit Card: Rewards, Benefits, and Which Card to Get (2026)

By Daniel Rozin | A Versus B | September 12, 2026

Nordstrom offers two credit card products managed by TD Bank: a store-only Retail Card and a Visa Signature Card accepted anywhere Visa is accepted. Both cards are co-branded with Nordstrom and earn rewards in the form of "Nordstrom Notes" — gift-card-like credits redeemable at Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com. This guide covers how the rewards work, what each card offers, who should apply, and whether the Nordstrom credit card is worth having.

Nordstrom Credit Card: Two Products Compared#

At restaurantsN/A2 points per $1
Everywhere elseN/A1 point per $1

Ambassador statusYesYes
Visa benefitsNoYes (purchase protection, extended warranty, etc.)

Both cards have no annual fee. The Visa Signature version adds the ability to use the card outside of Nordstrom and earn bonus points at restaurants — the main reason most applicants should choose the Visa Signature over the Retail Card.

How Nordstrom Notes Work#

Nordstrom Notes are the currency of the Nordstrom rewards program.

The math:

  • Earn 3 points per $1 at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook, and Trunk Club
  • 2,000 points = $20 Nordstrom Note
  • Effective rate at Nordstrom: 3% back in Nordstrom Notes

$1,000 at Nordstrom → 3,000 points → $30 in Notes

Notes are issued by mail (physical certificate) or digitally in your Nordy Club account when you hit 2,000-point thresholds. They expire after approximately 90 days of issue, which is an important limitation — unused Notes expire if you don't make a purchase within the window.

Earning beyond Nordstrom (Visa Signature only):

  • 2 points per $1 at restaurants: effective rate = 1% in Nordstrom Notes
  • 1 point per $1 everywhere else: effective rate = 0.5% in Nordstrom Notes

The multiplier outside Nordstrom is modest compared to general rewards cards (the Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 3x on dining, convertible to travel value at 1.25+ cents per point). The Nordstrom Visa Signature is best used primarily at Nordstrom — using it elsewhere is better than leaving rewards on the table, but it's not the optimal card for non-Nordstrom spending.

Nordy Club Status Tiers#

The Nordstrom rewards program (Nordy Club) includes status tiers based on annual Nordstrom spending:

StatusAnnual SpendBonus MultiplierKey Benefits
Member$0–$4991x baseBasic card benefits, early access
Influencer$500–$1,9991x + accessEarly access, exclusive events
Ambassador$2,000–$4,9991x + perksAmbassador card, alterations, priority access
Icon$5,000+1x + premiumHighest tier perks, concierge access

Cardholders automatically earn Nordy Club status points just by using the card, with Nordstrom card spending counting toward status thresholds. Ambassador status ($2,000 annual Nordstrom spend) unlocks complimentary basic alterations, triple-points days, and priority access to Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: The Biggest Cardholder Perk#

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is held each July, featuring steep discounts on new fall merchandise (not last season's items — current and upcoming inventory at reduced prices). Cardholders get early access before the sale opens to the public.

StatusEarly Access Start
Icon~2 weeks before public
Ambassador~1.5 weeks before public
Influencer~1 week before public
Member (cardholder)~4–6 days before public
General publicLast week of sale

The early access is meaningful — many popular items (shoes, accessories, beauty) sell out before the public sale begins. For loyal Nordstrom shoppers, the early Anniversary Sale access alone can justify applying for the card, even if you don't use it much throughout the rest of the year.

Nordstrom Visa Signature Card Benefits (Beyond Nordstrom Rewards)#

Because the Visa Signature version is a Visa product, it includes standard Visa Signature benefits:

Visa Signature benefits:

  • Purchase Protection: 90-day coverage against theft or damage on eligible purchases (up to $10,000 per claim)
  • Extended Warranty: Extends manufacturer warranty by 1 year on eligible items up to $10,000
  • Zero Liability: No responsibility for unauthorized purchases
  • Roadside Dispatch: 24/7 access to roadside assistance (pay-per-use; not complimentary coverage)
  • Travel and Emergency Assistance

These are baseline Visa Signature benefits, not premium perks. For dedicated travel protection, the Sapphire Preferred or a dedicated travel card is more robust.

Should You Apply for the Nordstrom Credit Card?#

Yes, if:

  • You shop at Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack at least a few times per year
  • You want early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (biggest benefit for loyal shoppers)
  • You want a no-annual-fee way to earn 3% back in Nordstrom store credit
  • You're building credit — Nordstrom approvals are possible with fair credit

Consider skipping if:

  • You rarely shop at Nordstrom (Nordstrom Notes have no value outside Nordstrom)
  • You want a flexible cash back or travel card — the Notes restriction is a real limitation
  • You already have a general-purpose rewards card covering your spending

The 0.5–1% return on non-Nordstrom spend (Visa version) is below average. If you're only getting 1 point per dollar elsewhere and those points are only worth 0.5 cents each in Nordstrom Notes, you'd be better off using a flat-rate 1.5–2% cash back card for non-Nordstrom purchases.

---

How to Apply for a Nordstrom Credit Card#

Application: Apply online at Nordstrom.com or in-store at a Nordstrom point-of-sale. Applications are processed by TD Bank.

Approval requirements:

  • Nordstrom Retail Card: Generally accessible with fair to good credit (620+ FICO)
  • Nordstrom Visa Signature Card: Requires good to excellent credit (670+ FICO)

Nordstrom typically performs a hard credit pull through Experian. In-store applicants receive an instant decision in most cases.

Nordstrom vs. Other Retail Credit Cards#

CardAnnual FeeAt-Store RewardsElsewhereRestriction
Nordstrom Visa$03 points/$1 (3%)2 pts (restaurants) / 1 ptNotes only
Macy's Visa$03–5%1–2%Macy's cash back
Bloomingdale's Visa$03–4%1%Bloomie's credit
Target RedCard$05%N/A (store-only)Target only
Amazon Store Card$05% (Prime)N/AAmazon only

Target's 5% RedCard is better for Target-specific spend. For general department store shopping across multiple brands, the Nordstrom card is competitive with Macy's and Bloomingdale's offerings. None of these retail cards offer strong value for non-store spending compared to general rewards cards.
