(2) Battery — Pro Max lasts significantly longer: approximately 33 hours vs 27 hours video playback; expect 1-2 extra hours in real use. (3) Video — Pro Max exclusively records 8K ProRes video; the Pro maxes at 4K ProRes (including 4K/120fps ProRes, new for the 17 series). (4) Price — Pro starts at $999, Pro Max at $1,199. Both share the same A19 Pro chip, camera hardware, and iOS features. Choose Pro for portability; choose Pro Max for maximum screen, battery, and the 8K video capability."},{"question":"Is iPhone 17 Pro Max worth the extra money?","answer":"For most users, yes if you: watch a lot of video/use the phone for extended periods without charging, prefer a larger screen for reading/media, or are a content creator who wants 8K ProRes video recording (exclusive to Pro Max). At a $200 premium over the 17 Pro, the Pro Max's longer battery life alone justifies the upgrade for heavy users who drain their phone by mid-afternoon. For users with smaller hands or who prioritize portability, the 17 Pro's 6.3-inch size is meaningfully more comfortable for one-handed use. If 8K ProRes video isn't in your workflow and your battery lasts the day, the 17 Pro is the smarter value."},{"question":"Does iPhone 17 Pro have a better camera than iPhone 16 Pro?","answer":"The iPhone 17 Pro improves over the 16 Pro in several ways: a larger 48MP main camera sensor (1/1.12-inch vs 1/1.14-inch) for better low-light performance, second-generation sensor-shift OIS for improved stabilization, and the A19 Pro's more powerful Neural Engine enabling more sophisticated computational photography (improved Smart HDR, Photonic Engine processing). Video gains are notable: 4K/120fps ProRes recording is new for the 17 Pro (previously limited to 4K/60fps ProRes). Apple Intelligence camera features including improved Visual Intelligence (point at anything for search results) are enhanced. Overall, the 17 Pro is a meaningful upgrade for photography and video enthusiasts."},{"question":"What is the battery life of iPhone 17 Pro?","answer":"Apple rates the iPhone 17 Pro at approximately 27 hours of video playback (standard streaming) and the iPhone 17 Pro Max at approximately 33 hours. Real-world mixed use (social media, navigation, calls, camera) typically delivers 12-16 hours for the 17 Pro and 14-18+ hours for the Pro Max under normal to heavy usage. Both models support MagSafe wireless charging (up to 30W with MagSafe charger), Qi2 wireless charging, and USB-C wired fast charging (up to 30W). From empty to 50% charge takes approximately 30 minutes with a compatible fast charger. Both feature hardware-managed battery charging to limit degradation."},{"question":"Is the iPhone 17 Pro waterproof?","answer":"Both iPhone 17 Pro models carry an IP68 rating under IEC standard 60529, meaning they are tested to withstand submersion in up to 6 meters of water for 30 minutes. This is an improvement over earlier iPhone Pro models (5 meters for 15 Pro, 6 meters since iPhone 15 Pro continuing through 17 Pro). Practically: both 17 Pro models can survive rain, splashes, accidental drops in water, and brief submersion. Apple notes the rating applies to fresh water — salt water, pool water with chemicals, or pressurized water (showers) can cause corrosion over time. Apple does not cover water damage under warranty, though AppleCare+ does cover accidental damage including liquid damage ($29 per incident)."}],"faqPageSchema":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"FAQPage","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/compare/iphone-17-pro-vs-pro-max#faq","url":"https://www.aversusb.net/compare/iphone-17-pro-vs-pro-max","inLanguage":"en-US","name":"iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro Max — FAQ","description":"Frequently asked questions about iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro Max","dateModified":"2026-10-20T09:00:07.278Z","author":{"@type":"Organization","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/#organization","name":"A Versus B"},"publisher":{"@type":"Organization","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/#organization","name":"A Versus B"},"isPartOf":{"@type":"Article","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/compare/iphone-17-pro-vs-pro-max#article"},"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","speakable":{"@type":"SpeakableSpecification","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/compare/iphone-17-pro-vs-pro-max#faq-speakable","cssSelector":[".faq-answer"]},"mainEntity":[{"@type":"Question","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/compare/iphone-17-pro-vs-pro-max#q1","name":"What is the difference between iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max?","answerCount":1,"acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","@id":"https://www.aversusb.net/compare/iphone-17-pro-vs-pro-max#a1","text":"The key differences between iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: (1) Screen size — Pro is 6.3 inches, Pro Max is 6.9 inches.
